An Overview of Analytical Methods for Bisphenol A
Abstract
Our food preparation and eating habits have gradually changed due to the pace of business life. This pace of life has also paved the way for the rapid development of ready-made food and plastic production industries. Various packets used for storing and selling ready-made foods and disposable plastic products that are preferred when consuming the foods contain Bisphenol A which is very dangerous for health. This substance, which can be transferred to the food it comes in contact with not only acts like a hormone in the human body, but also causes various diseases such as cancer, diabetes and obesity. The sensitive determination of this substance, which we are exposed to in many ways from medical materials to thermal papers and from water pipes to canned boxes, in foods, human body fluids and tissues has gained importance. For this purpose, researchers have developed various chromatographic, electrochemical and spectroscopic methods for Bisphenol A determination. In this review, the methods developed for the quantification of BPA, which is in contact with food and inevitably in the human body, and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed.
